The city is situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the majestic mountains of the northern Cordillera. Surrounded by beaches and coastal villages, Puerto Plata is the capital of the north coast.
The province also preserves the remains of the first colony in the Americas. Indeed the three famous ships of Christopher Columbus- the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria - on October 12, 1492 landed on this piece of land that was named La Isabela, first city in the New World.

Known as the Amber Coast for its rich deposits, the province of Puerto Plata is the largest in the north coast with the population of over 300,000 people. Other tourist sites of the city include the Amber Museum, where the cable cars ascent from Mount Isabel de Torres, which is 800 meters, with its botanical garden and the statue of Christ.
