The Dominican Republic has a semitropical climate, tempered by the prevailing easterly winds :
- The cool season lasts from November to April with average temperatures between 19 degrees Celsius at night and 29 degrees Celsius during the day.
- The warm season lasts from May to October with average temperatures between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius. Rainy showers are most frequent between May and mid-June.
The number of daylight hours remains more or less the same the whole year round.
Annual precipitation averages about 1525 mm, but considerably more moisture is received by the mountainous areas of the north.
Tropical hurricanes occur occasionally as Hurricane David which struck in 1979 and caused great damage, or as the latest one, George, Jeanne ...(?)
