CATEGORIES AND PENALTIES FOR DRUGS USE
- MARIJUANA:
CATEGORY ONE: Simple possession. This is the possession of 20 grams or less.
CATEGORY TWO: Distributor, salesman. This is the possession of more than 20 grams and less than a pound.
CATEGORY THREE: Dealer. This is the possession of more than a pound.
- HASHISH:
CATEGORY ONE: Simple possession. This is the possession of less than 5 grams.
CATEGORY TWO: Distributor, salesman. This is the possession of more than 5 grams and less of 1/4 pound.
CATEGORY THREE: Dealer. This is the possession of more than 1/4 pound.
- COCAINE:
CATEGORY ONE: Simple possession. This is the possession of less than 1 gram.
CATEGORY TWO: Distributor, salesman. This is the possession of more than 1 gram and less than 5 grams.
CATEGORY THREE: Dealer. This is the possession of more than 5 grams.
- EXTASIS:
CATEGORY ONE: Simple possession. This is the possession of less than 1 gram.
CATEGORY TWO: Distributor, salesman. This is the possession of more than 1 gram and less than 5 grams.
CATEGORY THREE: Dealer. This is the possession of more than 5 grams.
(Although the law does not include the Ecstasy, the Dominican authorities have given him to he himself treatment that the Cocaine.)

SENTENCE
- CATEGORY ONE: Simple possession.
Minimum: 6 months prison and 1 500 RD$ of fine.
Maximum: 2 years prison and 2 500 RD$ of fine.
- CATEGORY TWO: Distributor, salesman.
Minimum: 3 years prison and 10 000 RD$ of fine.
Maximum: 10 years prison and 50 000 RD$ of fine.
- CATEGORY THREE: Dealer.
Minimum: 5 years prison and more than 50 000 RD$ of fine.
Maximum: 20 years prison and more than 50 000 RD$ of fine.
A fine with a no smaller value of the confiscated drug value or surrounded in the operation, but in any case no smaller than 50 000 RD$ .
- CATEGORY FOUR: Suppliers, financers.
For this classification, the involved person or people can be sanctioned with thirty (30) years prison and a no smaller fine of the confiscated drug value or used in the operation, but in no case smaller than 1 000 000 RD$
